Root Into Your Wellness

Grounding practices for a busy summer, upcoming offerings, and more!

Is anyone else feeling like the days are longer but they’re flying by? I’ve had many conversations lately with friends, clients, and colleagues that the busy buzz of Summer is in full effect.

This can come with some great energy, excitement, and motivation. It can also get to a point where things may start to feel overwhelming and like you haven’t had the chance to just stop and take a deep breath.

Let’s do that now…pause...take a deep breath in for the count of 4...pause at the top for a count of 2…and take a deep breath out for the count of 6. Repeat as many times as you need.

When I start to feel this way, I often notice an ungrounded feeling in my body. Rushing and running into things, feeling off balance, a shallow breath, and a racing mind. Below you will find some of my favorite tips and tricks for when you’re feeling ungrounded.

Root into your wellness…

1. Start with tending to the root of your physical body: your feet!

Daily: see what it would feel like to bring mindful attention to your feet and lower body. Stretch your toes out wide, shift the weight of your body side to side and forward and back to feel into the surface of your feet. What does it feel like to notice the connection under your feet to shift with your weight?

Weekly: Give yourself a foot soak and a foot massage. Set up a spa day for your feet!

Exercises to help you feel grounded: air squats, lunges, or any balancing pose of choice! (my favorite is tree pose)

2. See where in your days you can intentionally slow down and be mindful!

All you need is a few minutes at a time. Instead of multi-tasking, find things that you can mono-task. (i.e., folding laundry, doing a puzzle). Try to keep your attention and intention solely on the task at hand.

Start your morning with a mindful meditation. Try this Root Chakra meditation on Insight Timer: https://insig.ht/i6YqQqYpjLb?utm_source=copy_link&utm_medium=live_stream_share

Get outside when you can and connect with nature. Put your bare feet to the earth, swim in a natural body of water, listen to the sounds of the birds or the breeze through the trees, watch and observe a squirrel, lizard, or a plant or tree nearby.

3. Set aside time to truly rest.

I came across this image depicting different variations of rest recently and it has been a great visual reminder!
