We’re starting to see it: a spring arrival in the close distance. This time of the year is the PRIME time to set visions, goals, and action. We hear a lot of chatter at the start of the new year to set your goals, make the changes, etc. And while I will never argue against readiness to reach your optimal health and happiness, I find a different approach to be aligned more with, well, everything…your nervous system, the environment, energy, and motivation.

Starting the year with an intention like a word or mantra and utilizing the first couple of months letting it land and integrate into your daily actions. For example, my mantra for 2025 is “Soft, Strong, Steady”. I have this written in at least four places where I am often. I have practiced using it as a mantra when I am feeling unsettled or unfocused. I have repeated it in moments of panic, grief, excitement, and joy. I have repeated it while walking down the street, while I am practicing a challenging exercise or yoga asana, and while I am seated on my meditation cushion surrendering to the moment. I ask myself: how can this [movement, decision, response] capture the energy of softness, strength, and s t e a d i n e s s ??

This supports me through the rest of winter - while the days are still shorter and my body wants to move slower. This prepares me for the spring - when it is the prime time to take the energy I have set and apply it! To take my vision and set solid goals and actions behind them. This allows me to remain in alignment with my greater vision - my values, my hopes, and dreams. This allows me to remain sustainable in the growth I create - so that I am less likely to crash out and more likely to show up as my greatest.

Take a pause right now to find 1 to 3 words that capture the energy that you want threaded throughout your year.

Close your eyes and deepen your breath. Notice how those words land in your body. Can you feel them in a location of your body? Is there a sensation or feeling it sparks for you? Take a few more moments and feel these words into existence.

Find something you can write on. A sticky note, a note card, your notes on your phone, etc. Write your words in different areas and keep them around you, always. Begin to practice repeating them in moments where you need an intention or a focus.

I want to help you take this energy and bring it into your goals and your actions this Spring season. It’s the season of growth, of greatness, of YOU!
